My sensei told me to be like a tree
No idea what he was talking about
I went into the depth of the woods
Finding a stump to sit, gazing out

As I’m seated, mind being cleared
A fox passes by, sniffing my boot
Once he discovers I am no threat
Runs away going a different route

Conversations voided, wind flows
More creatures come, some deer
Nonverbal gestures one to nother
I don’t think they notice I’m here

A snake takes a bit interest in me
Trekked up my leg and fell asleep
To be honest it’s very concerning
But if I stay still as stone, I’ll keep

Then the most terrifying moment
When a bear and her cub strolled
So close I could have touched fur
Didn’t move, breathing controlled

When they all left me to be alone
I abandoned my stump at sunset
Happy to be free to return home
But when I arrive, uncover regret

My shower revealing many ticks
Latched to my skin and feasting
Never again! and the worst part
Still unsure of master’s teaching
